MOTC: DRIVERS TO BE REGULATED WITHIN 1 YEAR|靠行車法律定位 交通部:一年內規範

The Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications jointly issued a report on recommended improvements following the Iris Travel Service Coach crash. Before Feb. 27 a joint audit will be undertaken of the same vehicle type as those involved in the crash. The crash revealed many traffic problems and MOTC Minister Ho Chen Tan will review these as soon as possible and hopes to issue new regulations within a year.
On Feb.23, the The Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications jointly issued a report to the executive Yuan on recommended improvements following the Iris Travel Service Coach crash. The two ministries will conduct a joint audit of travel, coach and passenger transport and will specifically audit working hours.

The transport industry has very particular labor requirements we will continue to work with the MOTC and jointly promote improvements to drivers' working conditions.
In the recent crash although it was decided that the driver was employed by the company, there were no laws to regulate the drivers' problems and the MOTC promised that within a year it would give specific legislation to cover drivers.

Drivers' working conditions are really a problem of organization from today within a year we will review relevant legislation and make formal legislation on the issue.
The MOTC is recalling 166 vehicles of the same type as the one involved in the crash for inspection. Chen Tan said it appeared that the vehicle body was not a large factor in the impact of the crash, however, further clarification would not be available until all aspects had been investigated.

The crash was extremely serious, our understanding is that there are some European vehicle factories that have tests for vehicle overturn and they have not seen such serious crashes.
The MOTC said that apart from reviewing tour itinerary legislation and setting limits, drivers' records of traffic violation would also be assessed. It would also be compulsory for large passenger vehicles to install digital recorders. Improvements would be regulated for drivers, vehicles and the industry as a whole.
