Wrong Vaccines Administered in Pingtung 屏東88人打錯疫苗 半夜8人不適送急診

There was an incident of wrong vaccinations being administered in Pingtung,. 88 people who were supposed to receive the second dose of Moderna were mistakenly given AZ due to operational errors at Antai Hospital. Eight people felt unwell and went for emergency treatment in the middle of the night. Among them, 4 are still under hospital observation and 4 have returned home. At present, Antai Hospital has stopped administering vaccinations. Pingtung County Government stated that it will complete its investigation within three days and decide on punishments. 
 

People arrive at Donggang's Tzuchi Hall early in the morning to get their vaccines but the hospital in charge of administering the shots has been changed from Antai to Fooyin. Wrong vaccines were reportedly given in Pingtung's Donggang Township on the 3rd. 88 people who were about to receive the second dose of Moderna, received the AZ vaccine instead. Antai Hospital, who was in charge of administering the shot, neglected to verify the vaccines.

Some people who received the wrong vaccine reported they felt unwell in the middle of the night and went to Antai Hospital's emergency room. According to the hospital's statistics, there are currently 8 people, suffering mainly from dizziness, fever, and muscle aches. 4 of them are still under ER observation and 4 have returned home. The doctor said that the antibody titer of mixing Moderna and AZ may be worse than that of 2 doses of Moderna, but there are still benefits.

Chen Tun-chieh, Director, Infection Control Department, Tatong Hospital: “Compared to two doses of Modena, mixing the vaccine may have a little bit worse neutralizing antibody titer but maybe you can get another benefit, which is that the antibody will last a little longer. This is all theoretically speaking.”

The second dose of AZ has fewer side effects than Modena. The doctor believes that under normal circumstances, it will have little effect on the body but the wrong mix still caused panic among the people. Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung responded regarding punishment.

At present, Antai Hospital has stopped administering vaccinations. The Pingtung County Government stated that it will complete its investigation within three days and decide on related punishments.

東港靜思堂一早陸續有民眾來打疫苗，但負責醫院已從安泰換成輔英。屏東東港3號傳出打錯疫苗事件，88位要打莫德納第2劑的民眾，卻因負責的安泰醫院領藥及核對疏忽，被誤打成AZ。

打錯疫苗民眾表示:「你的名字簽下去，護士跟在後面就打了。」
記者: 「沒有跟你說現在要打什麼，都沒有說?」

部分打錯疫苗的民眾，半夜陸續傳出身體不舒服、到安泰醫院掛急診，院方統計目前有8位民眾，主要為頭暈發燒跟肌肉痠痛，其中4位還在急診觀察中、4位返家休息。醫師則表示，莫德納跟AZ混打的抗體效價，可能比2劑莫德納差，但也有好處。

大同醫院感染管制室主任陳惇杰:「相較於打2劑莫德納的話，他的中和抗體效價可能也許會差一點，但也許可以得到另一個好處，就是它的抗體維持時間會久一點點，不過這是學理上來講。」

另外，AZ第2劑副作用也比莫德納較小，醫師認為正常情況下對身體影響不大，但錯誤混打還是引發民眾恐慌，衛福部長陳時中也對後續懲處做出回應。

記者:「請問這個會嚴懲嗎?」

衛福部長陳時中表示:「當地的衛生局會提報上來。」

目前安泰醫院已被停止接種任務，屏東縣政府表示，將在三天內完成行政調查，決定後續相關懲處。
