More and more people in Taiwan are seeking traditional herbal solutions and relief for COVID-19. The National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine (NRICM) under the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Union of Chinese Medical Doctors' Association together launched a regularly updated website on the nationwide stock of herbal COVID-19 formula Chingguan Yihau (NRICM101) at 1391 government-authorized hospitals and clinics. People can search according to cities and counties on the website to see the availability of the formula at a hospital or clinic near them without having to call each place to ask.
Chiu Wen-hui, Deputy Director, National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine: “Patients in need can book an online doctor visit with any of these 1391 hospitals and clinics listed on the website. These hospitals and clinics would upload their remaining stock on the website before midnight each night and all numbers would be updated by 7 a.m. the next day. ”
Legislators would like to remind the public to be aware of the authenticity of the Chingguan Yihau formula that they purchase. Chingguan Yihau formulas that come in tea bags or formulas purchased from unauthorized Chinese herbal medicine shops are not guaranteed by the government safety. It is important to check on the formula package whether the herbs are produced by the eight government-authorized Chinese herbal pharmaceutical companies. People can search for hospitals and clinics with the herbal formula currently available and book online doctor visits to get a doctor's prescription for the formula.
Ko Fu-yang, President, National Union of Chinese Medical Doctors' Association: “Hospitals and clinics in 22 cities and counties are participating with the government in updating formula figures for this website. Numbers get updated every so often on the page so people know where to book online appointments.”
Su I-chang, Director, National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine: “We keep in close communication with the eight Chinese herbal pharmaceutical companies to make sure that it is within their capacity to produce enough herbs for a 5-day prescription for about 150,000 patients each month. Everyone is putting in a lot of effort on production so it seems like we can push the provision up to 200,000 or even 300,000 patients each month.”
President of the National Union of Chinese Medical Doctors' Association Ko Fu-yang said that about 16,000 patients need Chingguan Yihau daily in Taiwan. All eight authorized Chinese herbal pharmaceutical companies are working at full force to provide enough medication for everyone. Many of these companies say straight out that they are rejecting overseas orders for now to focus on providing for Taiwan first.
