DPP Taipei Mayoral Candidate Resigns as Legislator|宣布請辭立委 姚文智:並非針對柯P

DPP Taipei City mayoral candidate Pasuya Yao said he would resign as a legislator to focus on his campaign as the election is just a few days away. His opponent, Kuomintang's Ting Shou-chung said it's the right decision to make.

On Nov. 18, Democratic Progressive Party Taipei City mayoral candidate Pasuya Yao attended a campaign event, where he announced he will be resigning as a legislator in order to completely center his attention on his campaign. During an interview on Nov. 19, he revealed resigning had always been on his mind. After seeing the thousands of people who had showed up to support him, he made the decision right then and there to resign. When asked if this move will adversely impact incumbent Mayor Ko Wen-je's chances of re-election, benefiting the Kuomintang, Yao responded it wasn't aimed at Ko.

This election is about conviction, it is an election about Taipei's future and long-term plans. Pasuya Yao did not take aim at Ko Wen-je, and hopes the position towards (Chen Chin-jun) will be made very clear during the last several days before the election.

Chen Chin-jun is a member of the DPP and currently serving as Taipei City deputy mayor under Ko. He has campaigned in support of Ko. Yao says there is a party membership conflict, and requested that the party's central committee make its position clear. Meanwhile, Ko scrambled to downplay the effects of Yao's announcement.

He must have had his own considerations. I still stick to what I said before. We can only do the things that we are capable of doing. We can do nothing about the things on the outside that we cannot control, we can only say we respect them. I've always been anxious, always been anxious.

Ko added anything can happen during an election, and candidates all have their own tactics, which he respects. Meanwhile, Kuomintang Taipei City mayoral candidate Ting Shou-chung said Yao made the right decision.

Legislator Pasuya Yao resigned to express his commitment to the election. On this point, we affirm his decision. Moreover, this can explain that Legislator Pasuya Yao is not cheating.

Ting says Yao has cut off his means of retreat, and there is a three-way race for Taipei City mayor. Undecided voters may end up playing a crucial role in the election if pan-blue and pan-green constituents support their parties. No one can be considered a frontrunner. As such, the winner won't be known until the votes are counted.
