The Taichung City Government is promoting barrier-free pedestrian spaces, and Wenxin Road has been selected as a demonstration road. The surrounding sidewalks will be widened to five meters across, and measures have been taken to crack down on illegal stopping, illegal vendors and illegal parking. Starting Oct. 12, scooters will not be allowed to park on sidewalks. The police will promote these new measures for one week. Meanwhile, residents worry the city's parking problems will worsen.

A tow truck removes illegally-parked scooters. Starting Oct. 12, scooters will no longer be able to park on the sidewalks of Wenxin Road in Taichung. The police will step up its crackdown on such behavior. However, some residents say the needs of scooter riders should also be considered.
You're making things more convenient for pedestrians, but more inconvenient for scooter riders. There really aren't enough parking spaces. I think both of these things need to be considered.

The Taichung City Government is promoting barrier-free pedestrian spaces, and Wenxin Road has been selected as a demonstration road. It will finish leveling the road surface shortly, and sidewalks will be widened to five meters across. The road will also have dedicated bicycle lanes to allow pedestrians and cyclists to simultaneously use the road. The city will also crack down on illegal parking and illegal vendors. In addition, no large potted plants will be allowed on the sidewalks. The city government will also create parking spaces in nearby lanes and roads.

We need to first provide them before we can implement this program. The entire road measures 10.2 kilometers long, so there is a total of 20.4 kilometers when both sides of the road are considered. We have created 6,800 parking spaces for cars and scooters at important locations.

The police began a one-week promotional period on Oct. 4. They will attempt to convince residents and businesses to conform to the policy. However, they worry that there are not enough "no parking" signs, so they may encounter resistance when cracking down on illegal parking. They asked the Construction Bureau to increase the number of signs quickly to avert any problems.
