Tsai Will Be Transiting Through US During Upcoming Trip 蔡總統過境美國 白宮:對台關係維持不變

According to reports, President Tsai Ing-wen will be traveling overseas at the end of March and may transit in the U.S. The White House says there is precedence for high-ranking officials from Taiwan to transit in the U.S.

“Madam President, you're leaving Taiwan at the end of March. Are you worried about diplomatic relations with Honduras?”While visiting a mask factory on the 17th, President Tsai Ing-wen did not stop to answer reporters' questions about Honduras. She thanked the workers for their contributions to the nation and talked about a special post-pandemic budget to help industry and small and medium enterprises.

Tsai Ing-wen, ROC President: “Included in our special budget is this other budget for helping our small and medium enterprises. We hope that this special budget will help businesses transition towards smart manufacturing and product differentiation.”

Tsai will be leaving Taiwan to visit allies at the end of the month and will transit through the U.S. The White House recently said there is precedence for senior government officials and presidents from Taiwan to transit through the U.S. and the U.S.' stance on relations with Taiwan has not changed. Tsai has transited through the U.S. six times since entering office in 2016.

Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary: “Such transits are undertaken out of consideration for the safety, comfort, convenience and dignity of the passenger and are in keeping with our one-China policy, which remains unchanged.”

Asked if Tsai would be meeting with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Karine Jean-Pierre said meetings between officials from Taiwan and members of Congress during transit stops aren't without precedence as Congress is an "independent" and "equal" government body.
