Parents Rush to Get Children Vaccinated

The epidemic situation continues to worsen, and the majority of children remain unprotected. Therefore, the Central Epidemic Command Center has set up seven vaccination sites in the six special municipalities for children aged five to 11.
Getting vaccinated can help protect children against COVID-19. Therefore, many parents are rushing to get their children vaccinated in light of the worsening domestic epidemic situation.
Ms. He, Parent: “His kindergarten was making arrangements, but it will still take some time for them to compile the list. I heard about this vaccination site yesterday, so I rushed to bring him here.”
Ms. Lin, Parent: “We had an appointment at National Taiwan University Hospital, but it was more inconvenient there and more convenient here.”
Some children couldn't get vaccinated at school due to school closures, so their grandparents took them to a vaccination site to receive the jab.
First Grader: “I'm really happy. Why is that? Because I won't get COVID-19, because I knew it wouldn't hurt because I got the flu vaccine before.”
Seven large-scale vaccination sites for children aged 5 to 11 opened on June 1. They will remain open during the Dragon Boat Festival long weekend, and will primarily be offering the Pfizer-BNT vaccine. Each site will offer 2,000 to 3,000 vaccines a day. Appointments can be made online, and walk-ins are also accepted. The site in Taipei is located at Liberty Square, and it opened at 8:30 a.m. Two hundred children were vaccinated in less than one hour. Doctors remind parents to be aware of side effects.
Hou Ming-chih, Vice Superintendent, Taipei Veterans General Hospital: “Go to a hospital if your child has a fever of over 38 degrees for over 48 hours or difficulties breathing and a doctor will help to diagnose.”
The Central Epidemic Command Center said there are vaccination sites at Taipei's Liberty Square, New Taipei City's Banqiao Station, Taoyuan's Taoyuan Arena and Army Academy, Taichung's National Museum of Natural Sciences, Tainan's Tainan Public Library, and Kaohsiung's Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. Children who have recovered from COVID-19 shouldn't get vaccinated until three months pass since their recovery.
