A 73-year-old man who had returned to Taiwan from Guam several days ago was found dead on Jan. 14 in the location where he was undergoing quarantine. He had presented a negative test result for COVID-19 upon his arrival. The cause of death is yet unknown.
On Jan. 11, a humanitarian charter flight with 47 passengers aboard arrived in Taiwan from Guam. Five of them were Guam residents in need of medical treatment who went to hospitals. Taiwan enacted more stringent disease prevention regulations on Jan. 15. Non-nationals are not allowed to enter. Moreover, only one person may quarantine per residence. People are also required to self-manage their health for seven days after quarantine, so those intending to spend the Lunar New Year with their families will need to plan accordingly. Some 50,000 arrivals were expected in the second half of January. However, many Taiwan businesspersons have changed their mind about returning now that quarantine regulations have been made stricter, quarantine hotels are hard to find, and the self-isolation period may be extended.
I've decided not to return home for the Lunar New Year this year because of the epidemic situation, and because the government failed to establish a travel bubble.
China's Hebei Province has experienced another outbreak and is currently locked down like Wuhan was in 2020. The CECC says it is not considering travel bubbles, making it difficult for Taiwan businesspersons in China to return home for the holiday.

新北市疾管科科長 黃冠傑表示：「在1月14號的時候，經由電話關懷時，沒有接到回應。所以公所協同相關的人員，到宅訪問關心，發現該民眾倒臥在廚房陽台，經由消防隊急救送醫後，無心跳，目前是已經通報檢察官，進行相驗。」
這名男子入境時有依照規定，在當地檢驗新冠肺炎陰性才入境，究竟死因為何，指揮中心表示，會等待檢驗結果再做研判。
中央流行疫情指揮中心發言人 莊人祥表示：「指揮中心大概就是等送驗的結果，他有沒有決定要送驗，我們就檢驗而已。死因的研判，還是要檢調這邊來做研判。」
此外，從今天開始防疫再升級，除了非本國籍人士暫緩入境外、如果是本國籍人士入境居家檢疫也得遵守一人一戶的規定。返國民眾居家隔離14天限一人一戶，如果再加上7天自主健康管理，等於必須提早返台才能回家過年。原本1月中下旬會出現一波返台潮，推估高峰將有5萬多人，現在因為居家檢疫變得更嚴格、防疫旅館一房難求，加上來回隔離期恐拉更長，不少台商乾脆留在中國不回來過年。
珠海台商 藍盛義表示：「今年因為疫情關係，再加上政府一個（春節)泡泡政策，沒辦法去配套執行，所以我決定不回台過年。」
由於中國疫情捲土重來，河北每天的病例數暴增，封鎖程度和去年的武漢相當，疫情指揮中心指揮官陳時中表示，針對台商團體呼籲的春節泡泡、台商泡泡，目前都不考慮推動，這也讓今年返台過年之路困難重重。
