Formosat-7, the latest satellite co-developed by Taiwan and the United States, was shipped to the U.S. on April 15. It's scheduled to be launched on June 25 by Falcon Heavy, a launch vehicle built by SpaceX. Member of a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology have been flying out from Taiwan since June 20 in hopes to witness the launch in person.
Members of the Taipei Economic Cultural Office in Los Angeles present the technological trends in South California. They believe Taiwan and SpaceX will have more opportunities to collaborate on its Low Earth Orbit satellite Program.
We have earned the trust of global partners with our technological advantages in the field of ICT (Information and Communications Technology), in electronic communications, and in precision mechanics. The satellites in the future will be smaller and smaller, they even require nano-materials, and (companies from) Taiwan are very good in this sector.
The office in Los Angeles is optimistic when it comes to Taiwan's satellite technology development and talents. In comparison to China, South Korea and Japan, they believe that Taiwan has an edge in being trusted by its global partners as well as being more flexible in funding.
Formosat-7 is scheduled for launch on June 25, from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, U.S. A delegation from Taiwan's Ministry of Science and Technology is currently staying in Los Angeles, and will head over to the space center later on to witness the launch in person.
Formosat-7 is one of the 24 small satellites that have been mounted on the Falcon Heavy carrier rocket. The pre-launch preparation has been completed, and all eyes are set on the imminent launch.
