TYPHOON NAMTHEUN HEADS TOWARDS SOUTHERN JAPAN|中颱"南修"撲日 九州降下驚人雨量

Typhoon Lionrock has just left Japan, but another typhoon Namtheun is growing stronger and headed towards southern Japan. So far, its peripheral cloud system has brought significant rainfall to Kyushu Island. The island's Toshima village has seen the highest precipitation in 50 years. Trucks drove into the lanes. Volunteers worked in the mud to clear areas that have been ravaged by floods. Typhoon Lionrock caused severe damage in Japan's Iwate Prefecture and Hokkaido. Residents have been working for days to restore their homes with the help of volunteers who came from all over Japan. ==VOLUNTEER== I just want to help out in any way I can. ==VOLUNTEER== I do this as if I'm cleaning my own home. The Okawa area of the Iwate Prefecture has become isolated due to the typhoon. Transport, electricity, and water have been cut off, and over 800 residents have been stranded as a result. The Japan Self-Defense Force used helicopters to get supplies to the area and transport residents in need of medical attention to the hospitals. Several people in Hokkaido were trapped by muddy floods and had to wait for rescue on the top of a car. ==TAKADA, Trapped Hokkaido Resident== There were two other men who were also stranded. We encouraged and supported each other. Typhoon Lionrock has finally left Japan, but another typhoon Namtheun is now headed towards the Kyushu region. In Kagoshima's Amami region, precipitation reached 120 mm in a matter of an hour. Toshima village has even seen the highest precipitation in 50 years. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued warnings about floods and landslides, and has asked residents in the villages of Toshima and Mishima to evacuate. Typhoon Namtheun is expected to make landfall in Japan on Sep. 4th.
