The National Taxi Driver Labor Union called a press conference to protest against the government for failing to enforce the law and allowing Uber to continue its operations. Taxi drivers say the government has lost its credibility, and they are utterly disappointed with the MOEA Investment Commission. Frustrated and feeling their work rights have been jeopardized, over 100 taxi drivers blocked traffic in front of the Executive Yuan in protest.
The National Taxi Driver Labor Union called a press conference on August 12th to protest the government for suspending its decision to revoke UBER's investment license. Taxi drivers said the government has failed to protect their labor rights.

Uber was already determined to be in violation of foreign entrepreneur regulations in 2014, and the Investment Commission said that Uber's investment license could be revoked as punishment. Now 2 years has passed, and the Executive Yuan just suspended the decision arbitrarily. I think the government have lost their credibility.
The National Taxi Driver Labor Union said at their anti-Uber demonstration on July 11th, they asked the government to respond to their demands within a month. Now it's been over a month, but the MOTC still have not yet taken action regarding Uber's illegal operations. Other countries such as Germany, France, Japan, and South Korea have all taken a firm stance to enforce their regulations, but Taiwan has continued to tolerate illegal businesses. Taxi drivers gathered at the Executive Yuan spontaneously in protest to express their anger and frustration towards the MOEA Investment Commission.
==EMILE CHANG, Exec. Sec., MOEA Investment Commission==
The case was processed in accordance with regulations. Because Uber has appealed the MOTC's decision and raised administrative litigation, the case cannot be closed. We have to wait for the result of the litigation.
The MOTC said they have been instructed by the Executive Yuan to review other countries' policies regarding Uber and will call an inter-agency meeting in August to discuss the measures the government will take. In the meantime, Uber is still considered illegal and not allowed to operate in Taiwan.
