Tsai Pi-ru Demands Assessment Report Be Published 碩論遭撤銷 蔡壁如要求公開審定報告

Takming University of Science and Technology recently revoked the master's degree it had conferred upon TPP lawmaker Tsai Pi-ru. Today she held a press conference along with her fllow party legislators, asking the Ministry of Education to provide the assessment report which they said was denied due to confidentiality.

Former TPP legislator Tsai Pi-ru's master's thesis was withdrawn by Takming University of Science and Technology. She held a press conference on the 31st accompanied by fellow party legislator Chiu Chen-yuan and others. Tsai emphasized that she did not necessarily have to restore her degree, but is asking the university to provide its assessment report in order to defend her rights.

Tsai Pi-ru, Former TPP Legislator: “Takming won't give me a response at all. What is the problem? This is also the question I want to ask, and also my confusion.”

Chiu Chen-yuan, Legislator (TPP): “I can't help but wonder if the Ministry of Education's attitude is the same as the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Are these documents sealed for 30 years? The grounds for withdrawing her degree is also a confidential document, disregarding her rights.”

Chiu emphasized the TPP's Legislative Yuan caucus asked the Ministry of Education twice to provide their assessment report and other materials. However, the MOE responded that the university said it was a confidential document and would not release it to the public. He criticized the MOE as a white terror in the academic world.

Wu Pei-ying, Professor, Dept. of Agricultural Economics, NTU: “Some are uncleanly written, but you have to tell her. And let's not talk about these research methods. If the school doesn't understand and it says the students don't understand, how can the school not understand?”

She Wan-lin, Lawyer: “They did not inform Tsai before the deliberation meeting of being accused. We have no way of knowing what we're being accused of so how can we give our replies? This is what we are very puzzled about.”

People from academic and legal backgrounds also attended the press conference to show solidarity with Tsai. The MOE has not responded to Chiu's accusation by press time. Takming University's executive secretary did not respond to the reporter's call either.

前民眾黨立委蔡壁如的碩士論文，遭到德明財經科技大學撤銷，她今日在同黨立委邱臣遠等人陪同下舉行記者會。蔡壁如強調自己不是一定要恢復學位，可是要求校方要提供審定報告書等資料，才能捍衛自己的權利。

前民眾黨立委蔡壁如說：「現在德明完全不給我一個正面的回應，到底是什麼樣的一個問題，這個也是我想要提出來的疑問，也是我的納悶。」

民眾黨立委邱臣遠表示：「我不禁想問，教育部你們的態度難道跟衛福部一樣，這些資料都要機密封存30年嗎？撤銷學位的理由，居然也是機密文件，罔顧我們這個當事人的權益。」

邱臣遠強調，民眾黨立院黨團兩度行文，要求教育部提供審定報告書等資料，教育部卻回應，校方表示是機密文件，不對外公開，痛批這宛如學術界的白色恐怖。

台大農經系教授吳珮瑛說道：「有些是，有一些改寫上面的不乾淨，那不乾淨你要告訴他呀，更不要講說，這些研究方法的使用，那學校不了解，你說學生不了解，學校怎麼也會不了解呢。」

律師佘宛霖表示：「（審議會議前）校方在事前並沒有告知蔡壁如委員，關於被指控，甚至是被檢舉的內容。在這樣一個沒有辦法知道被檢舉內容的情況底下，要怎麼樣陳述意見，這個是我們非常納悶的。」

包括學術界、法律界的人士也都出席記者會聲援蔡壁如。而對於邱臣遠的指控，教育部表示，經向德明科大詢問，學校已於10月14日提供「關於被檢舉人違反學術倫理之說明」；至於學校針對學倫案件組成審議委員會、召開會議、做成決議及審定報告書等均屬學校權責，教育部予以尊重。
