NTD/USD Breaks NT$32 Mark 台積電跌破400元 新台幣一度貶破32元大關

Taiwanese stocks dropped in early trading today. TSMC fell below the NT$400 mark again, reaching a low NT$396.5. The foreign exchange market also performed weakly, with the New Taiwan Dollars falling below the NT$32 mark, a record low in the past 5 years and 10 months.

Affected by the U.S. stock market's drop again on the 14th, the TAIEX index dropped 140 points on opening on the 17th, and fell 235 points in less than a minute. The TAIEX reached an intraday low of 12,814 points. TSMC's stock price dropped again, falling more than 3 percent. This broke its 5-day moving average level as the stock tested the NT$400 mark again.

Wang Jung-hsu, CEO, Marbo Investment Advisors: “Besides weak electronic stocks, financial and shipping stocks were also hard-hit today, It seems the market is unwilling to chase prices higher from the rally on the 14th.”

Analysts said U.S. corporate earnings will debut this week, which may cause short-term volatility. Coupled with the continued strength of the U.S. dollar, American stocks may have more room to drop. The foreign exchange market is also weak. The NTD opened at NT$31.93 and its depreciation continued. It depreciated by more than ten cents in early trading, breaking the NT$32 mark. This is a new low in the past 5 years and 10 months.

Li Chi-chan, FX Analyst: “U.S. stocks corrected again last Friday. And the Yen broke its bottom. Therefore, all Asian currencies are under pressure to further depreciate. At present, it seems that the Taiwan Central Bank is looking at this difficult-to-reverse trend. So it's probably not going to jump in to reverse the NTD's slide and that's why the NTD broke the NT$32 mark.”

Foreign exchange analysts believe that if the NTD stabilizes at NT$32 against the U.S. Dollar in the next few days, foreign capital will lessen their pressure to sell. However, a strengthening NTD will be hard as the U.S. will raise interest rates in November, and the Korean Won and the Chinese RMB continue to depreciate.

受到美股上週五再度重挫的影響，台股反彈行情曇花一現，17日開盤以下跌140點開出後，不到一分鐘隨即大跌235點，在電金傳航運齊跌下，指數一路開低走低，盤中最低來到1萬2814點，護國神山台積電也再度跳水、大跌超過3%，摜破五日線，再面臨400元關卡保衛戰。

萬寶投顧執行長王榮旭指出：「盤面上除了電子股走弱之外，另外金融以及傳產的航運都是今天的一個重災區，似乎就是說指數的部分，上個星期五的一個反彈，市場追價的意願也不是很夠。」

分析師表示，本週美國企業財報週登場，在這變數影響下，短線走勢恐會呈現來回震盪，加上美元指數續強，美股尚看不到止跌訊號，市場風險仍大下而匯市同樣表現弱勢，新台幣以31.93元開盤後貶勢擴大，早盤貶值超過1角，一度貶破32元大關，創下近5年10個月以來新低。

外匯分析師李其展表示：「上週禮拜五美股再修正，然後加上日幣破底，所以整個亞幣有進一步走貶的壓力。目前看起來央行是看趨勢難逆轉，應該是暫時沒有硬要跟市場對作，所以放手讓台幣來到32。」

外匯分析師認為，若這幾天新台幣兌美元站穩32、外資賣壓縮手，加上美國11月又要升息，在亞幣包括韓元、人民幣也持續破底的情況下，台幣要獨立走強其實不容易。
