Popiah Sales Up Ahead of Tomb Sweeping Festival 清明將至 南市攤商推鳳梨口味潤餅皮

The Tomb Sweeping Festival long weekend will begin on April 2, and many people are purchasing popiahs to honor their ancestors. In Tainan, there are traditional popiahs made with shredded egg, cabbage, and pork, as well as creative ones featuring popiah skins made with pineapples.

Some vendors got creative by launching new versions. One added pineapples as part of the ingredients to make the skins, and then filled them with lettuce, seasonal fruits, and more pineapple. This helped to use up pineapples, as well as give shoppers a new flavor to choose from.
China banned pineapple imports from Taiwan this year. We have to return to the basics, and we also have to boost pineapple sales during ordinary times. To speak frankly, the sweetness of our golden diamond pineapples is off the charts. Its taste also allows it to be used in many ways.
Taiwan can no longer export pineapples to China, so the Tainan City Government has been promoting pineapples to residents. Pineapple promotional events will be held at traditional markets in April and May in Tainan. The local government will also act as a "pineapple national team" to fully promote sales of Guanmiao pineapples.
一張一張的潤餅皮,再加上蛋絲、高麗菜、肉等經典配料,一個台南在地味的潤餅就做好。清明節即將到來,民眾大多也都會準備潤餅來祭祖、食用。不過,隨著傳統潤餅業者變少,今年潤餅買氣也成長兩成。
潤餅業者表示:「潤餅皮,做好的那種,沒有漲價,去年就賣這樣。他們自己切,自己做,就沒有被再賺一手。」
潤餅業者表示:「今年有差,多兩成,因為很少人在做,(包的那個)這個也是 。」
民眾表示:「就其實偶爾吃,有時候想要吃一下就應景 ,(如果)漲一點點,都可以接受。」
也有攤商推出新口味,潤餅皮摻入鳳梨,再加上生菜、當季水果以及鳳梨,清新口感讓民眾多個選擇,酸酸甜甜的新口感,體驗創新潤餅,也讓在地鳳梨多了一個新出路。
台南市長 黃偉哲表示:「今年因為中國停止進口台灣鳳梨,我們還是要回歸基本面,也是平常時候,就要讓鳳梨的銷路能夠暢旺。我們金鑽鳳梨,坦白講,甜度爆表,口味也可以讓它多元化。」
因鳳梨外銷受阻,台南市府也配合推廣,台南傳統市場自4月至5月期間,也將在各公有市場辦理多場鳳梨促銷活動,用鳳梨國家隊的概念,全力行銷在地的關廟鳳梨。
