Overwhelming Demand for Vouchers Crashes Systems|搶購紙本三倍券 郵局一度全國大當機

The computer system at post offices crashed on the first day of the distribution of the Triple Stimulus Vouchers as it was overwhelmed by the acute surge of purchasers. Kiosk users have also experienced lagging issues at some convenience stores.

A long line of people has formed outside Taipei's Beimen Post Office. These people were all there to buy or collect their Triple Stimulus Vouchers. Mr. Wu, a resident of Wanhua District, got up really early and arrived at the post office at 4 a.m., managing to secure the first spot in the line.

I had problems buying face masks before, so I decided to get here really early to see if that would be better. It worked!

Meanwhile, Ms. Chao, who is wheelchair-bound, declined to pick up the vouchers at a convenience store because she thinks it's inconvenient to have to use a screen. That's how she ended up at the post office.

I'm going to stock up on items that we use every day, such as toilet paper, shower gel, shampoo, kneepads, and wrist braces.

Chunghwa Post statistics showed that between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., post offices sold 260,000 Triple Stimulus Vouchers. As there were so many purchasers, Chunghwa Post's bandwidth was overwhelmed and the system crashed nationwide at 9:49 a.m. It did not go back online until 10:02 a.m.

I asked the chairperson and general manager to form a contingency group, so they dealt with the issue as soon as it happened. This was just the first stress test, and there might be many future issues. I will continue to ask Chunghwa Post's chairperson and general manager to be present in the command center to meet contingencies.

The vouchers could also be collected at convenience stores, which also experienced problems. People at 7-Eleven, Family Mart, and OK Mart received error messages about heavy traffic and requesting them to try again later. Some people waited over 20 minutes.

I really wanted to see this thing, so I arrived at 9 a.m. on the first day of availability.

I was going to buy a TV set, but now that I have them, I think I'll reconsider.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs said there was so much demand that systems were overwhelmed, but they were put back online and technical issues are still being clarified.
