NTU Hospital Opens Dedicated Epidemics Clinic|台大醫院比照SARS措施 開設疫病門診

As of now, to enter any hospital, one must wear a surgical face mask. National Taiwan University Hospital has also set up infrared temperature sensors by its doors and opened a special "epidemics" outpatient clinic on Jan. 29, as it did during SARS in 2003. The area is specially set for patients with respiratory symptoms or fever, and have been in China in the past 14 days. This is such that potential Wuhan pneumonia patients will be segregated from the general public while they seek treatment.
If we segregate the patients earlier, it is more likely that they will not make contact with normal patients, then there is a lesser chance of infecting others.
The special clinic is made up of doctors from the Division of Infectious Diseases and Thoracic Medicine. They will perform Rapid Influenza Diagnostic Tests and Rapid Novel Coronavirus Nucleic Acid Tests. The unit has an individual counter and its own medication distribution center. As soon as a suspected case is discovered, the patient will be moved into quarantine immediately to be treated. Currently, in Taiwan, there is a total of 8 confirmed cases and 460 people who have been in contact with them. Experts now are concerned that the novel coronavirus is different when compared to SARS, in that it is infectious even when the patient shows only slight or no symptoms. Whereas with SARS, the virus is most likely to be contagious only when the patients have symptoms, such as fever or coughs.
With Wuhan pneumonia, there are cases where there are only slight symptoms or no symptoms, and yet they are contagious. Thus the risk of a community cluster infection is indeed very high. The likelihood of totally eliminating the novel coronavirus by using manual inspection methods like we did with SARS, are very low.
According to the hospital, they have received 18 patients on the first day. It also said that if they discover that the patient does not meet the criteria to be examined at the "epidemics clinic", the hospital will arrange for the patient to be transferred to the emergency room to be treated.
現在到醫院必須配戴口罩才能進入，台大醫院還在門口設置紅外線體溫感測器，而為了因應大批患者突然湧入，台大醫院從29號起，比照SARS當年措施，在舊大樓旁邊的紅磚大樓，另外開設''疫病門診''，專門提供14天內、從中國大陸地區回台，有發燒或有呼吸道症狀的患者掛號看診，讓武漢肺炎潛在病例患者、分流就醫。
台大醫院副院長 王亭貴表示：「如果我們早一點把病人分流的話，他就比較不會，跟一般正常的病人做接觸，就比較不會有產生感染的機會。」
台大醫院表示，「疫病門診」是由感染科或胸腔科內科專科醫師支援，會立即進行流感快篩、及新型冠狀病毒的快速核酸檢驗，有獨立的掛號櫃台、抽血檢驗及領藥部門等，一旦發現疑似病例，就會後送到負壓隔離病房隔離治療，不會和一般病人交叉感染。由於國內武漢肺炎疫情，至今累積有8名確診個案，與確診病例接觸者、累積有460人，有感染症專家擔心，當年SARS是發燒後才具傳染力，但新型冠狀病毒可能輕症或無症狀帶原就有傳染風險。
台灣兒童感染症醫學會理事長 李秉穎表示：「武漢肺炎它是輕症很多，甚至無症狀帶原者都可能，傳染給別人的情形之下，會造成社區感染的風險的確是很高，用人為的方法去做檢疫，能夠把這個武漢肺炎的病毒，完全像SARS那樣，根除的可能性也很低。」
而根據台大醫院統計，疫病門診開設第一天，就有18位民眾掛號看診，如果發現有病人不符合掛號條件，也會安排轉診到急診就醫。
