TAOYUAN AIRPORT MRT BEGINS OFFICIAL OPERATION TODAY |機捷今起正式營運 首月票價打對折

Trains were packed on the last day of trial runs for the Taoyuan Airport MRT. Many travelers with luggage used the system to get to downtown. ==PASSENGER FROM KAOHSIUNG== It was convenient, being able to take the train from the HSR station to the airport. And it was raining that morning, so it was nice to be able to avoid the rain. ==PASSENGER FROM CHINA== The time between trains seems to be a bit long. 15 minutes is a bit long, it would be better if it were 10 minutes. Metro Taoyuan numbers showed that over 1.3 million rides were taken on the system over 28 days of trial runs, far exceeding the 700,000 projected. Single-day ridership reached 170,000 on Feb. 26th. Minister of Transportation Ho Chen Tan was at the system's control center on the day before service officially starts for a review of the trial run. He said that the problems seen during the trial run, including cracks in switches, leaks in stations, and crashes in the baggage check system, must be resolved and will hold the contractors accountable. ==HO CHEN TAN Minister of Transportation== Whether the problems with the switches, or the problems with the leaks, these are all covered in our warranty terms. We will require that the contractors assist the operator in compliance with the warranty. As these problems are resolved, we will gain a truer understanding of the technical vulnerabilities in the system. Service on the system will officially begin on March 2nd. Ticket prices will be half off for the first month, so a ride between Taipei Main Station and the airport will cost NT$80. The system's operating hours are 6 AM to 11 PM; in the future, the hours may be lengthened in response to operational needs.
