GOVERNMENT TO SET UP LONG-TERM CARE TECH UNIT|推長照2.0 總統:成立長照科技小組

The "long-term care services program 2.0" began trial early November and is to replace the current 10-year program that ends this year. President Tsai Ing-wen along with the Minister of Health Welfare LIN TZOU-YIEN attended a long-term care workers experience sharing session yesterday, and said that the program must be established, because Taiwan is gradually becoming an aging society, and a long-term care technology unit has been established to enhance the services. Graduating with an accounting degree, 28-year-old Ms. Lin used to work at accountant's office. She often works overtime and stays up late each day. She finally decided to quit her job and return to her hometown in Hualien. She now works as a care attendant at a long-term care facility. She likes to interact with seniors and it gives her a sense of achievement. ==LIN SHIN-MIN, long-term care attendant== You just need to imagine them as if they were your own grandparents, then you won't find it difficult. Do you find your own grandparents or parents annoying? Probably not. The long-term care services program 2.0 is to be fully implemented by next year. However, the current number of care attendants is lacking by 4,500 to 12,000. President Tsai said, due to the low birth rate in Taiwan, the government set up the long term care technology task force which will apply technological solutions to services. President Tsai described the long-term care services program 2.0 as being like building a house with stable foundations; time is needed to solve problems one by one. ==TSAI ING-WEN, ROC President== Issues that were not handled, or were avoided, or not done properly or unfinished, are now being taken on, one by one. ==LIN TZOU-YIEN, Minister of Health Welfare== For Taiwan's future, we must use technological solutions. Therefore we have established a technology task force for long-term care services. President Tsai emphasized that she will visit places with officials and finds problems after the policy enforcement. The Ministry of Health Welfare is to discuss with experts and standardize pay rates to care attendants, the calculation involves with working seniority and levels of difficulty. The rates will be sent to all long-term care institutes for references.
