UberEATS DELIVERS FREE BUT IS FINED ON FIRST DAY|Uber加入外送巿場 交部開罰6件吊扣牌照

On November 15th, Uber launched its food delivery service, UberEATS in Taiwan. However, the company's decision to deliver for free during the initial period hasn't prevented the government from giving it trouble. So far, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has fined six UberEATS deliveries. The license plates of all vehicles involved have been suspended. You can order a variety of food via UberEATS app from your smart phones. No need to go out, someone will deliver your order to you by bicycle or motorcycle. UberEATS in Taiwan is registered under information industry, therefore it is illegal for UberEATS to deliver food for restaurants. However, UberEATS went ahead for its operation. Uber is a technology company, and App that connects consumers with restaurants to have food delivered. In addition to Taipei, UberEATS has begun its service in 52 cities worldwide. Although UberEATS do not charge for food delivery during the promotional period, but the Ministry of Transportation and Communications finds the company violating the relevant regulations and imposed fines to the couriers and UberEATS for six delivery cases. The fines were from NT$50,000 to NT$150,000 with vehicle plates suspended for at least two months. The Ministry plans to amend the laws by raising amount of fine to NT$25 million. ==WANG KWO-TSAI, MOTC Spokesperson== In the past when we were imposing fines to Uber, the most troublesome part was its membership system with credit card registration. After we completed imposing the fines, that particular membership will be terminated. Therefore in this amendment, we will raise the amount of monetary award for informant. The Ministry of Transportation Communications had emphasized that UberEATS is operating illegally and will continue to enforce the law.
