MA CLARIFIES EVENTS IN WIRE-TAPPING CASE|被控涉洩密.違法監聽 馬被告身分出庭

On November 8, the Taipei District Court summoned former president Ma Ying-jeou as a defendant to clarify the wiretapping case in 2013. While Ma emphasized that he was innocent, DPP caucus whip Ker Chien-ming, who filed the lawsuit against Ma, said Ma should have stepped down for his mistakes. Three years ago, former president Ma Ying-jeou and then-legislative speaker Wang Jin-pyng were locked in a power struggle known as the "September Strife". On November 8, Ma appeared in court to defend himself against accusations of soliciting former prosecutor-general Huang Shih-ming to leak confidential information to him. The lawsuit was filed by DPP caucus whip Ker Chien-ming, who with Wang, was involved in allegedly improper lobbying over an ongoing investigation, heard by Huang. Ker asked Huang and Ma's then-secretary to be summoned as witnesses. Ma emphasized that he was innocent. Ker's lawyer asked the court to detain Ma immediately, and the court said the verdict will be given later. The wiretapping case will be heard again on Jan. 10, 2017.
