The first elevated light rail system is going to be constructed in Tainan. There will be 12 routes, with a single track system connected to the 3 core areas of downtown Tainan, the Southern Taiwan Science Park, and Xinying. Tainan City Government completed the evaluation on the green line and the blue line, but shop owners and local residents have different opinions.
Narrow roads and congested traffic flows are common image in Tainan. To resolve this long term problem, Tainan City Government planned to build Taiwan's first elevated single track light rail system, including 12 routes to connect the three core areas of Tainan downtown, The Southern Taiwan Science Park and Xinying. The evaluation of the green and blue lines has been completed, and is now awaiting approval from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.

Our roads are narrow and short, and the capacity on our road system are pretty full already, so considering for the whole city condition, we prefer to build elevated railway.

It would be more accessible for people to visit and let this place to be more well-known.
These two routes will start construction in 2 years' time, after approval by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications People believe that it could draw more visitors and business, but others thought the convenience of scooters will still be more popular.

The Tainan City Bureau of Transportation said the time spent on construction of the elevated light rail will be short and cheap, which can meet the city's demand. However, the budget for building these two lines is NT$6.58 billion, with NT$2.54 billion to be raised by the local government and the rest of 4.04 billion by the central government.

兩條路線送交通部審核後,若是通過,預估兩年後開始動工,對於高架型的輕軌,鄰近店家認為,可以帶動商機、人潮,但也有用路人認為,還是無法取代摩托車的機動性。

還是機車比較方便
交通局表示,高架跨座式單軌系統施工期較短,成本較低,相對比較符合台南市的需求,不過光是綠藍兩線的總經費就要658億,市府自籌254億之外,還得由中央補助404億,屆時完工能不能收到預期成效,有待時間考驗。
