Schooling's father is British military officer married a local Portuguese-Eurasian in Singapore. Schooling's mother is a Malaysian, and participated in Olympics 2012 in London. Joseph Schooling demonstrated his competence in swimming and set a new record. Michael Phelps's 35-year-old teammate Anthony Ervin claimed another gold medal for the United Sates after 16 years, in the men's 50 meters freestyle. Ervin's finishing time was 21.40 seconds, which was 0.01 of a second faster than French gold medal winner. The US Swimming team has been competitive in Olympics Games. The 19-year-old Katie Ledecky won her gold medal in women's 800 meters freestyle final, and set a world record of eight minutes and 4.79 seconds. Ledecky has no competitor in swimming competitions, she was ahead of the other competitors before reaching the finishing line. She won four gold medals and one silver medal, as many as Michael Phelps'.
