Compulsory insurance for scooters raised / 促降肇事率 機車擬納強制險差別費率

According to Ministry of Transportation and Communications statistics, scooter accidents alone account for 60 percent of the road traffic deaths. Last year, a 60 year old man fell off his scooter and got injured due to drunk driving. The man crashed into the rider next to him and the latter died immediately. We are thinking of charging extra insurance to riders violating traffic laws, in order to remind them of the importance of road safety. Since last March, drivers have been charged an extra NT$2,100 insurance for every single drunk driving record. There is no upper limit for the charge. According to the MOTC, the aim is to stop people from drunk driving. The MOTC is still planning the rate for compulsory scooter liability insurance with the Financial Supervisory Commission. The fine may be high to stop traffic violations.
