Huang Min-hui Wins Chiayi City Mayor Election for the 4th Time 嘉義市長選舉黃敏惠大勝 創紀錄四度當選

The KMT's Huang Min-hui swept the Chiayi City mayor election, winning 59 thousand 874 votes to her opponent's 27,000-plus. Huang is the first mayor in Taiwan's history to win four times in the same city. The DPP has been deluged with different opinions about how to move forward, some are calling on the party to identify the "core cause" of its massive defeat in the elections as soon as possible.

Chiayi City Mayor-elect Huang Min-hui thanks voters for their support after winning the election. Huang, the KMT's candidate in the race, will enter office on the 25th. 

Huang Min-hui, Chiayi City Mayor-elect (KMT): “This will make me work even harder. Whether I win or lose an election, I always learn from the experience.”

By winning the election, Huang Min-hui becomes the first mayor in Taiwan's history to win four elections in the same municipality. In the last election, which had a voter turnout rate of 68 percent, Huang collected 58,000-plus votes. In this election, which had an all-time low voter turnout rate of nearly 44 percent, Huang still collected over 59,000 votes. Despite collecting just 32,000 votes, DPP candidate Lee Chun-yi also went on a thank-you tour. He says he respects the choice of Chiayi City residents.

Lee Chun-yi, Chiayi City Mayor Candidate (DPP): “I think the focus should be on the future development of Chiayi City. Residents are making their voices heard.”

Lee also said he will join in on internal talks within the DPP about ways to improve. The DPP has been deluged with different opinions about how to move forward, and lawmaker Chen Ting-fei is calling on the party to identify the "core cause" of its massive defeat in the elections as soon as possible to keep the party's chances alive in 2024.

Chen Ting-fei, Legislator (DPP): “We are absolutely not discussing a Cabinet reshuffle or mini-reshuffle right now. Our focus is on identifying what went wrong. If we don't do that, it doesn't matter who gets appointed to what post.”

With the DPP hard-hit with corruption scandal after corruption scandal in recent months, it will need to move quickly and decisively if it wants to staunch the bleeding before the next local election.

搭上車開始掃街謝票。順利連任的國民黨嘉義市長當選人黃敏惠，25日就要開始新任期。儘管選舉剛結束，她19日沒休息，一早就開始謝票。

國民黨嘉義市長當選人黃敏惠說：「人要更努力、更用心地耕耘，所以我覺得每一次不管輸贏，都是有許多的意涵在這裡。」

黃敏惠將成為首位同縣市4度當選的縣市首長，她上午再次感謝選民支持。因為上一屆選舉投票率近68％，她拿下5萬8000多票；今（2022）年選舉延期加上低溫，投票率只有43.99％。歷屆最低的狀況下，她拿下5萬9000多票，比上屆多了1000多票。而以3萬2000多票落敗的民進黨李俊俋，上午同樣展開謝票行程。面對敗選，表示尊重市民選擇。

民進黨嘉義市長候選人李俊俋指出：「我覺得更重要的是，嘉義市未來要怎麼樣的發展，我想民眾也發出很多的聲音。」

李俊俋表示，會跟民進黨共同檢討改進。但民進黨再一次落敗，黨內檢討聲四起，立委陳亭妃也呼籲應盡快找出核心原因，否則恐怕影響2024大選。

民進黨立委陳亭妃認為：「現在絕對不是在討論內閣改組還是小改組，重點是在於，我們是不是有把問題找出來了，否則改了誰、換了誰有什麼用？」

民進黨近期因黑金等問題爭議不斷，九合一後的延長賽還有兩場，若黨內無法在爭議問題上盡速調整、止血，恐怕後面選戰也將不樂觀。
