Adult Entertainment Sector Reopens for Business

The adult entertainment sector reopened. Places around Taiwan mobilized police officers to prevent violence, ensure compliance with disease prevention measures.

Resident: “I'm a model citizen. ”

Police Officer: “ Ok.”

Customers show police officers their yellow vaccination cards and real-contact registration text messages. The adult entertainment sector was back in business on Nov. 16, and customers thronged into venues as soon as they turned on the lights. In Taipei's Wanhua District, the police stepped up late-night inspections. They cited 21 people for not registering their real contacts. Under Central Epidemic Command Center regulations, people frequenting adult entertainment venues must have received at least one vaccine dose at least 14 days prior. However, police in Taichung discovered customers without vaccination cards. They were asked to register and fined.

Police Officer: “The current regulation is that you need proof of vaccination to enter these places. You're unable to provide this proof, so we are asking you to register based on regulations and we will make a copy.”

Police were mobilized all across Taiwan to maintain order and ensure compliance with disease prevention measures. Hostess clubs had to make sure that customers and workers were masked up and carrying vaccination cards. There was a recent spate of brawls and drunk driving incidents in Taichung, and there were concerns that there would be trouble if things were not kept under control. Meanwhile, the Kaohsiung City Police Department's commissioner personally led an inspection.

Huang Ming-chao, Commissioner, Kaohsiung City Police Department: “We will lay down the law if a brawl occurs after drinking. We urge residents to refrain from drunk driving. The police will absolutely crack down on this. Any brawls or related incidents will be handled rigorously.”

Venue personnel lined up to let the police conduct their inspection. The Kaohsiung police were aiming to crack down on violent incidents and disease prevention violations at adult entertainment venues, as well as crack down on drunk driving. The inspections will continue until Nov. 20 to ensure that there won't be any disease prevention breaches or street violence originating from adult entertainment venues.
