Ko Launches Political Party for 2020 Presidential Election?|

Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je is set to launch his own political party. Kaohsiung City Mayor Han Kuo-yu believes this means Ko will run for president in 2020, but Ko says Han will discover his prediction is wrong after some time passes. As for when he will meet with Terry Gou to discuss working together, Ko said everyone has to clearly express their discourse to please the people, and it's just that the candidates currently fielded by the two main political parties make him feel "uncomfortable."

Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je will be starting his own political party. Unhappy that the news broke before his announcement, Ko blasted the Ministry of the Interior on the 2nd for the leak.

He even said applications aren't confidential documents.

Honestly, this kind of government disciplinary system is rotten to the core and they just have excuses on top of excuses. We have nothing prepared. We don't have a party charter or seal or anything yet.

Both the pan-blue and pan-green camps expect Ko's party to become a third force in the legislature. However, Ko has yet to announce a 2020 presidential bid. According to reports, he is waiting to see if Terry Gou will be his running mate. Ko will not say when he will meet with Gou, but a Gou aide says there is, unavoidably, unspoken tension between the two.

Of course there is this kind of unspoken tension when people live in this world, but it's not too bad. As is often said, this kind of strong winds and huge waves -- we forget all the small details. Everyone has to clearly explain their own discourse. So, I actually think that this is the most important, that the presidential candidates of these two parties have to be able to effectively persuade us. It's just that up to now, in all honesty, both of them
make me feel "uncomfortable."

Han Kuo-yu, who hurriedly set up a meeting with Gou, believes Ko launching his own party is a sure sign he will run in 2020.

You don't have to guess what Ko Wen-je is doing or what it means. I have discovered that Ko Wen-je is a very unpredictable person. He can guess, but when some time passes you will discover he has guessed wrong again. It's a very abnormal phenomenon to be elected (as mayor) and then one month later be running for president. It's just that it's very unfortunate that Taiwan is so abnormal. In this abnormal country, how do we think about how to make it a bit more normal?

The White Force alliance, meanwhile, is criticizing Ko for forming his own party, saying this is a shallow attempt by Ko to prolong his political career and starting his own party is "political ECMO." It also called Ko a classic opportunist.
