The Tainan legislative by-election is only 8 days away. Former Premier William Lai is proactively calling for support for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, saying that the party is hanging just by a thread. Lai is playing the pity card in hopes to garner support for the party. On the other hand, the candidate from the opposition Kuomintang, Hsieh Lung-chieh, has followed through with his plan and canvassed the street in the city's Shanhua District.
Kuo Kuo-wen, candidate from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for the upcoming Tainan legislative by-election, and former Premier William Lai have made a presence on Tainan's Xinhua old street. Despite the drizzle, Lai stands on a small platform to speak to the public with a megaphone to call for their support.
I really hope the public could give the DPP one more chance. Don't let the DPP crumble.
The Tainan legislative by-election is only 8 days away, and things are not looking optimistic for DPP candidate Kuo Kuo-wen. Lai is showing support for Kuo and admits that the DPP is hanging by a thread now, and his calling for the public's support, shows his concern about the DPP's chance in the election. When asked about Kaohsiung City Mayor Han Kuo-yu, who will be aiding the rally for the KMT candidate on Saturday, Lai said he will keep working hard on his task at hand.
The senior member of KMT will probably all come to Tainan (to show support for their candidate). All we can do is to work hard to connect with every member of the public.
The way Han Kuo-yu conducts himself makes him very approachable. We are aiming for the same goal, the more we reach the public, we further we can go.
Hsieh Lung-chieh has followed through with his plan and canvassed the street in the city's Shanhua District. Coincidentally, Kuo's team had also planned to canvas the same street, but they changed their itinerary at the last minute to prevent running into Hsieh. Many speculate that Kuo's change of plan is because they were worried that Hsieh would be more popular there.
We had picked this area (to canvass for votes), and to walk across the intersection to head to the market. And there's another activity scheduled at 10am. I want to complete all the tasks in a roll and avoid wasting too much time.
Our itinerary was set long ago, so there's no conflict to speak. They (the DPP camp) are doing the same thing as us now, such as selling fruits. I think this is great, we are all working hard to stimulate the agriculture and fisheries sector.
Chen Hsiao-yu is an independent candidate, which means her by-election bid is not supported by any political heavyweights and has no publicized itinerary. She said she is not afraid at all when facing opposition from the two major parties, and emphasizes that she is just as a young person who really wants to the help local residents in Tainan, and will work hard to try win voters' support.
