Unidentified Taint Scaring People Away from Flu Shots|疫苗出包影響接種 醫師憂流感疫情

Influenza shots are being administered at elementary, secondary and vocational schools starting in November. However, because there have been issues with both domestically manufactured and imported vaccines provided for free by the government, many people are hesitant to get the shot. The number of people going to health bureaus and clinics to get the shot has fallen recently. One doctor is worried that not enough people will get the shot this year and there will be a huge influenza outbreak at the end of the year. The Centers for Disease Control says both cases were isolated incidents and is urging everyone to get their shot as soon as possible.

Despite reports of possibly contaminated flu shots, this woman is having her child vaccinated.

…because we got the shot last year. We've also heard about anomalies on the news before, so I don't think there's any issue with getting the second shot.

Free flu shots will be administered at elementary, secondary and vocational school campuses starting Nov. 1. However, many people are concerned about the safety of both domestically manufactured and imported vaccines. There have been reports of discolored vaccines and vaccines containing floating white particles. Since then, the number of people getting the free shot at health bureaus and clinics has fallen.

We give up to a dozen or so shots a day. Because it's not peak (flu) season yet, we're only giving five or six (flu shots) a day right now.

The government purchased six million flu shots this year, with free vaccination starting Oct. 15. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1.31 million shots were administered in the first week and 830,000 in the second week. Between Oct. 26, when the first discolored vaccine was reported, and Oct. 30, only 355,000 shots were administered.

It takes around two weeks after you get the shot to be protected. So, we still hope everyone can get the shot as soon as possible.

The CDC reasserts the discolored vaccine and the vaccine with the floating white particles are both isolated incidents and says all free shots on the market are perfectly safe. It also says it takes two weeks for the shots to reach full potency and everyone needs to get the shot before peak flu season at the end of the year.
