FDA Investigating Report of Rancid Ensure|亞培安素臭酸變質?! 食藥署介入了解

A consumer has lodged a complaint about a bad, sour smell that emanated from a newly opened can of popular nutritional supplement drink Ensure. After he poured out the contents, he found the drink had already solidified into pieces. The Food and Drug Administration says Ensure is imported into Taiwan from the United States and Netherlands in its original packaging. The administration says it has not received any reports from hospitals or other channels and it is still trying to learn more.
People that are diabetic, on dialysis, or recently had surgery often consume Abbott Laboratories nutritional supplement Ensure. One consumer recently filed a complaint about a rancid can of Ensure that had solidified into chunks. The Food and Drug Administration says it is trying to learn more.
We have already notified health officials in Taipei City, which is where the importer is registered. Taipei will conduct the next phase of the investigation. If problems are found with their product, they will be fined in accordance with the law. This batch of products will also have to be recalled.
According to the FDA, Ensure is imported into Taiwan from the U.S. and Netherlands in its original packaging and it has not received any reports from hospitals or other channels. If problems are found with the product, it will fine the parties responsible. One pharmacist says this is not an isolated incident and the same problem has been reported in southern Taiwan with similar products.
A pharmacist in southern Taiwan has reported coming across four or five different Ensure products containing jelly-like chunks in one month.
At the end of last month, Abbott notified distributors that it would be suspending shipments of another one of its nutritional products, Glucerna, due to "uncontrollable factors" until Oct. 5.
