Hualien Forestry Bureau Monitors Lost Black Bear|防南安小黑熊受干擾 今起擴大管制措施

A small black bear in Hualien County's Zhuoxi Township has been looking for its mother for 12 days. Hualien County's Forestry Bureau has expanded the area of control to the edge of Provincial Highway 30 and Walami Trail to ensure that the black bear is not affected by nearby human activities.


A small black bear has been lost on its own for the last 12 days. It's been hiding in the mountainous area near the Nan-an management branch of Yushan National Park. It's suspected that the frequent tourist activities in the region could have scared away the mother bear in the mountain.

I hopes the mother bear could find its child and take it away as soon as possible. (It might be dangerous.) The poor little bear needs protection.

The Hualien County's Forestry Bureau has expanded the control area to the edge of Provincial Highway 30 and Walami Trail. The bureau has banned all vehicles from parking, as well as photography in the area in order to ensure that the bear is not affected by nearby human activities.

There were some tourists who passed the area in the morning, but we have stopped them. (They were passing by.) (They can pass by but they can't stay in the area.)

The human activities could scare the bear. Therefore, if people really care about it, they should pass through the area as soon as possible.

The forestry bureau said that they did not provide any food for the bear in order to make sure it still maintains its ability to seek food for itself. But the bureau has monitored the bear and will step in if the mother bear does not show up for prolonged period. The Forestry Bureau said they hope the mother bear would show up as soon as possible because they do not want to send the small bear to the zoo. The bureau has also called on the public to avoid entering the controlled area during this period.
