Annette Lu Severs Ties with DPP|呂秀蓮:5/30起 民進黨跟我沒有關係

Former Vice President Annette Lu has shocked the nation by bidding farewell to the Democratic Progressive Party. It's been reported that President Tsai Ing-wen is trying to arrange a meeting with Lu to persuade her to reconsider her decision. However, Lu seems determined by saying that the party has already had nothing to do with her. Lu did not clarify whether she plans to participate in the year-end elections. Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je says running for office is every citizen's right and his goal remains unchanged.

(So about the Taipei City mayor election at the end of the year) (You won't run?) I'm not ruling out any possibilities. As of last night, I no longer have anything to do with the Democratic Progressive Party.

Former Vice President Annette Lu has severed ties with the Democratic Progressive Party and says the party no longer has anything to do with her. Lu made the announcement after the DPP nominated lawmaker Pasuya Yao in the Taipei City mayor race. Asked if she plans to run as an independent, Lu said she is not ruling out any possibilities. President Tsai Ing-wen is reportedly scrambling to arrange a sit-down with Lu to change her mind. Yao says he is not senior enough to get involved.

I don't have the seniority to try to get her to stay in the party. In the future election, I can only keep moving forward. As for election analysis, discussion and even rumors, it's all meaningless to me.

If Lu runs, she would likely split the pan-green vote. Yao says he can't consider the possibility because there are only six months remaining until the election and he has to focus on his campaign. Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je, who is running for reelection, says his goal of winning every age demographic has not changed.

(My) goal should be getting the highest percentage of support in every age group. (So, are you focusing on younger voters?) I have to get the support of younger voters, but also of all age groups. (Does Annette Lu running not concern you at all?) It's not that I'm not concerned, but worrying does no good. I can only focus on what I have to do.

Lu's previous statements on the Kuan Chung-ming controversy were seen as an attempt to win the support of undecided voters. It would certainly shake things up if she throws her hat into the ring in the capital city.
