Many traffic accidents are caused by drivers and motorcyclists who fail to use turn signals when switching lanes or making turns. To help the law enforcement officers carry out their duties, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has amended traffic regulations. Those who do not use turn signals properly will be fined up to NT$1,800, and the new policy will take effect on July 1.
When motor vehicles switch to another lane, many drivers and riders forget to signal, ignoring vehicles coming from behind and therefore cause accidents.
==TSAI TSUNG-I Traffic Division Chief, Nat'l Police Agency==
If a moving vehicle switches to another lane without signaling, obviously we can issue violation ticket to the driver. However, if driver signals reversely, do we fine the driver? The regulation has no specific article over this violation.
The traffic regulation only fines to drivers who failed to signal when switching lane. However, controversy arises since it has been difficult to present evidence. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications amended the traffic regulation for signaling in the wrong direction, the fine would be NT$600 to NT$1,800, and it may be effective by July 1.
==CHAO CHIN-WEI Section Chief, Dept. of Railways and Highways, MOTC==
If the driver wants to make a right turn but sign a left-turn sign, or left turn with a right-turn sign, that would cause other drivers and pedestrians misinterpret the vehicle's moving direction. Therefore we decide to use this opportunity to amend traffic regulations. That would make a more clear reference for law enforcement.
However, some police said that it will be difficult to issue violation citation unless there is video serving as evidence.
==TSAI TSUNG-I Traffic Division Chief, Nat'l Police Agency==
If the driver has the dashboard camera and recorded the front vehicle signaling in the wrong direction, the driver certainly can attach the video as evidence and report to law enforcement. We will issue violation ticket accordingly.
The Ministry of Transportation and Communications stated penalty for signaling in the wrong direction applies to automobiles, motorcycles and bicycles. Bicycle riders must use hand signals for making direction changes, if signaling wrongly, bicycle riders will also get violation ticket.

==ns(方向燈)==
