The Great Buddha Statue in Bagua Mountain, Changhua, has 56 years of history, and has been listed as a historic site in Changhua. The temple authorities requested to close ten windows in the Buddha's back and legs, as closing means completeness in Buddhism. However, the proposal was turned down again in the cultural heritage meeting on May 10 due to fire protection and maintenance reasons.

The Great Buddha at Mt. Bagua was registered as historical architecture in 2002, any maintenance or modification needs to pass by the cultural assets committee
meeting. The Great Buddha Temple proposed sealing up windows for two times, and were rejected by two magistrates.

The Great Buddha is a 22-meter high, six-floor building. It was constructed with windows for ventilation. Temple committee said, these windows leak when typhoon comes. They are to propose again to the county government after inquiring with building structure professionals and fire fighters.
