15,600 KG OUT OF DATE MEAT PRODUCTS FOUND|台中力勤農產賣過期肉 封存1.5萬公斤

The latest food scandal broke after a former employee reported that the company he was working for was selling meat products that expired in 2013, which is four years ago. The Li Chin company was accused of removing the product label and repackaging the old meat with a new expiration date. Taichung City Government officials conducted an inspection and seized around 15,000 kilograms of problematic products. However, it remains unknown how much old meat has actually been sold or consumed. In this video, company staff are sitting on the warehouse floor, pulling off the sell-by dates on meat products as they are all out of date. In the warehouse freezers, there are even more such products. ==FORMER STAFF MEMBER OF LI CHIN== The boss is still selling stuff from 2013, all 30 boxes, I didn't have the time to film it all, every day, everything they sell is out of date. The staff member, surnamed Chen, filmed the products dated from 2013 which are still being sold, and alleged that for many years the the Li Chin meat import company has been freezing meat products and before they are sent out, the staff have to pull off the date labels. ==FORMER STAFF MEMBER OF LI CHIN== The boss he said that if it is frozen at minus 20 degrees, it doesn't change much. The former member of staff said that most of the meat products were two to three years out of date and the oldest dated from 2013. Most of the products go to small-scale meat processing factories and night markets. As soon as Taichung City Government Health Bureau received the report it went to the premises immediately. At the premises it found unlabelled pork ribs, pork entrails with the labels taken off and 220 boxes of out-of-date chicken legs in the freezer, amounting to a staggering 15,600 kilograms of out-of-date meat. ==FU CHIONG-HUI Div. Head, Taichung City Govt. FDA Div.== To protect consumer health the BOH has sealed off a total volume of 15,608.4 kilograms of 30 types of meat. The industry says that products passed the sell-by date were disposed of normally, but when going through the items, the BOH found 1,674, 6 kilogram boxes of pork ribs with no labels. It found 333 boxes of pork entrails which had had the labels cut off and frozen chicken legs which were also all past the sell-by date. Investigation is underway into the 1,000 or more downstream factories where product have ended up. If it is proved that the company sold out of date meat it can be fined up to NT$2 billion under food safety legislation.
