FAT FLIGHT ATTENDANTS PROTEST AGAINST LAY-OFF AT HEADQUARTERS|不滿突遭資遣 17名空服員赴遠航抗議

Members of the Far Eastern Air Transport (FAT) trade union demonstrated outside the airline's headquarters in Taipei on Thursday in protest over the carrier's laying-off of 17 flight attendants. The 17 flight attendants who joined the union in protest was laid off by the airline on May 3. One of the flight attendants said that when they first began training in 2015, the company promised to raise their hourly wage from NT$180 to NT$272 after working for one year. However, the company decided to reduce their wage to only NT$220 in 2016 without any negotiation, in which they earn less than other flight attendants for doing the same job. In response, the FAT said in accordance with the Labor Standards Act, the best that they can offer is to allow the 17 flight attendants to terminate the contract without any penalties and provide NT$30,000 in severance pay for each employee being laid off.
