TRUMP-XI MEETING NARRATIVE CHANGED BY SYRIA BOMBING|川習會後無聯合聲明 川普承諾訪中

Taiwan may breathe a sigh of relief for not being mentioned in the just concluded Trump Xi meeting. However, many believe failure to mention Taiwan or the one China policy only served to expand the uncertainty between Washington, Beijing and Taipei. Analysts say maybe Xi did not feel like using his first meeting with Trump to talk about these sensitive issues. As Trump has received Xi's invitation to visit China, his position will be more clear in the next summit. The first meeting between the US and Chinese leaders after US President Donald Trump's inauguration saw some of the attention shifting towards the US military strikes on Syria. On April 8, Hsu Hsin-liang pointed out that Xi Jinping was the biggest beneficiary of the meeting as the Syria bombing invalidated China's worries about a US-Russia alliance against it. What did he get? First, Trump will make an official state visit to China this year, before the 19th NCCPC, I think. This is a major achievement for Xi. Analysts also believe that compared with the meeting between Trump and Abe in February, Trump and Xi's meeting was more of a symbolic move than a practical one.
