PROPOSAL THAT INVESTIGATORS HELD TO ACCOUNT FOR TRANSPARENCY|司改會議決議落實偵查不公開 違者將究責

It has been one year since the tragic incident that saw a little girl knifed in broad daylight on the street. Yesterday at a judicial reform conference, where the little girl's mother Wang Wan-yu has been appointed a member, her proposal to hold to account prosecutors who disclose ongoing investigations, was passed. Wang Wan-yu, mother of the murdered toddler made no comments as she left the committee. About transparency of investigations, thank you. It was a year since Wang's toddler daughter was murdered by a knife-wielding attacker on the street. Before coming to the justice reform meeting, Wang had expressed her grief for her daughter on Facebook and said that she cries every day for her. However, she also said that there are many other cases that have evidence, that are not investigated fully and there were untrue reports in the media which caused additional suffering. The media should not forget to be responsible to society. During the committee meeting Wang proposed a discussion on transparent investigation. The committee supported this and suggested that illegal and non-transparent investigation should be heavily penalised. ==LUO BING-CHENG Justice Reform Committee Group 1 convenor== Where investigations are not transparent, there should be implementation of administrative punishment according to law, for the person responsible by the authorities for investigation and handling in accordance with legal procedures and a report on the investigation should also be published on a regular basis. As to media coverage, the committee also suggested that judicial bodies should have a spokesperson and should have a controlled area for media interviews. It also suggested that media should be managed so that they do not freely enter office areas. A tranche of suggestions was made by the committee relating to information not being leaked during investigations, so that human rights would be protected during the course of an investigation.
