Earthquake victims start again / 維冠倒塌115人罹難 數十億善款助家園重建　　　　　　　　　　

A year after the earthquake struck, reconstruction work is still ongoing, espeically for families who used to live in the Weiguan Jinlong apartment complex. Let's look at how the victims got back on their feet again. Rescue workers were searching for survivors in the rubble of the collapsed building. ==RESCUE TEAM== OK. OK. Let's look for the mother. On February 6, 2016, a 6.6-magnitude earthquake woke many people in Tainan from their sleep. The Weiguan Jinlong apartment complex in Yongkang District collapsed and resulted in 115 deaths. Rescue operations and resources were immediately deployed for search and rescue. ==WILLIAM LAI Tainan City Mayor (Feb. 13, 2016) == Chairman Hsieh was the last one. He was a very responsible person who refused to leave until everyone left. After a week, Tainan Mayor William Lai announced the end of rescue operations after all victims were found. Shortly after, the reconstruction efforts officially kicked off. Tainan City Government published a short anniversary film in appreciation of all the support it has received. It used some of the donations to fund 46 projects that will take care of victims for 3 years. ==WILLIAM LAI, Tainan City Mayor == Our aim is not simply giving the donations to the victims but helping their life get back on track. ==LIU SHU-HUI Dir. Gen., Tainan City Government Social Affairs Bureau== Those who were seriously injured in the earthquake and those who still need help with education, home care, or employment will not be perceived as victims of the 206 Earthquake in 3 years but as individuals who need special care. Some, however, raise doubt as the city government plans to use money donated to the victims to repair old school buildings across the city. ==LIU SHU-HUI, Director General, Tainan City Government Social Affairs Bureau == In addition to the $1.9 billion designated by the Ministry of Education, the city government also allocated the budget for school reconstruction projects. That is why we did not use the donation for that purpose. Reconstruction began for 13 households in West Central District last September, while others in East District and Guiren District have entered the initial planning and design stage. Although most residents in the Weiguan Jinlong apartment complex decided to move elsewhere, 33 households chose to build their new home in the original site.
