COPAYMENT FOR NIGHT EMERGENCY TREATMENT NOT TO RISE|未轉診跑大醫院 明年起部分負擔調漲

On Nov 12, Minister of Health and Welfare Lin Tzou-yien announced that patients who visit large medical centers without referral will have to pay a higher copayment, starting next year. Non-referral outpatients will have to pay an extra NT$60 to NT$100. For the period between 12 am to 6 am, the copayment for emergency visits will remain unchanged. In order to discourage people from frequenting large hospitals for minor illnesses, the Ministry of Health and Welfare will be raising the copayment from NT$60 to NT$100 for non-referral patients who visit large hospitals directly. The new rates will apply to both outpatients and emergency visits at large hospitals with the exception of the late night period. ==LIN TZOU-YIEN, Health and Welfare Minister== Patients do not normally visit hospitals between midnight to 6 am unless they're seriously ill. Therefore, the fees for this time period will not be adjusted. Lin stressed that raising the copayment is one of the six main strategies in promoting an effective referral system. Starting next year, NT$6 billion will be allocated to raise the insurance payment for critical illnesses so as to encourage hospitals to admit more critically ill patients. Also, medical foundation hospitals will not be allowed to use bus advertisement to get more patients with minor illnesses. ==SHI CHONG-LIANG, Dept. of Medical Affairs DG== Some hospitals pick up patients across the district on shuttle buses with loudspeakers to promote their hospitals. They sound like peddlers. To facilitate a more effective referral system, copayment will be reduced from NT$210 to NT$170 for referral outpatients at medical centers. For regional hospitals, the rate will go down from NT$140 to NT$100. The plan will be finalized next Friday at the public health insurance meeting.
