One Motorcyclist Injured, Two Killed by Driver 小客車闖紅燈撞2機車 台中東區2死1傷

A Taichung driver killed two motorcyclists and injured one after running a red light on the evening of Jan. 15. The driver fled the scene on foot but was located and arrested several hours later.

A 49-year-old man surnamed Liu crashes into two motorcycles that were crossing an intersection after appearing to run a red light. The high-speed crash took place at the intersection of Taichung's Zhenxing Road and Dongguanyuan Road at 7:26 p.m. on the 15th.

Wu Nien-jung, Chief, Taichung Traffic Police Corps 3rd Squadron: “One of the two motorcyclists was a woman surnamed Lien, who had a passenger. The other motorcyclist was a man surnamed Yeh. Mr. Yeh was killed and Ms. Lien and her passenger were injured and taken to China Medical University Hospital.”

After crashing into the two motorcycles, Liu abandoned his car and fled on foot. Police say Liu was spotted driving down the road in the wrong direction minutes before the accident and asked to stop. Liu did not comply, and the police reported the violation but did not give chase.

Wu Nien-jung, Chief, Taichung Traffic Police Corps 3rd Squadron: “Following the collision, Mr. Liu fled the scene. We quickly located him using CCTV footage and arrested him.”

Using CCTV footage, police located and arrested Liu at 11 p.m.

15日晚間7時26分，台中市東區振興路、東光園路口車水馬龍，不料卻飛來橫禍。一輛由49歲的劉姓男子駕駛的自小客車疑似闖紅燈，高速撞擊正在過馬路的2台機車。

台中市第三分局交通分隊分隊長吳念蓉說道：「分別由連姓女子所駕附載一名乘客，及葉姓男子所駕的2部普重機發生碰撞，造成葉姓男子傷重不治。連姓女子及其附載的乘客受傷，送中國醫院治療。」

肇事的劉姓駕駛棄車逃逸，警方調查，劉姓男子在肇事前就被發現逆向行駛，員警隨即鳴笛尾隨攔查。不過為了確保執勤安全沒有續追，將依法就違規部分逕行舉發。

台中市第三分局交通分隊分隊長吳念蓉提及：「劉姓男子肇事後逃逸，目前已調閱監視器掌握對象，將儘速將其查緝到案。」

案發後警方展開追查，於晚間11時多將劉男查緝到案，警方漏夜釐清案情。
