Rebound of Taiwan Stock Triggers Topic of Whether NFSF Should Exit
The TAIEX opened high on Oct. 5, leading to discussions on whether the National Financial Stabilization Fund should exit.
Following the surge of major U.S. stock indexes in the past two days, Taiwan Stock opened high on Wednesday, Oct. 5, and continued to rise, led by electronics weight stocks, rendering a splendid red in the market and with an intraday rise of over 300 points, coming to 13,880 and back on the ten-day moving average. The rebound of Taiwan Stock triggered people's concern about whether the National Financial Stabilization Fund will contemplate withdrawing from the stock market during its regular meeting on Thursday.
Su Jain-rong, Minister of Finance: “The National Financial Stabilization Fund is holding its regular meeting tomorrow, and normally at a regular meeting, if no surprises, there should not be any major decisions.”
Minister of Finance Su Jain-rong hinted that the National Financial Stabilization Fund will temporarily exist; however, he emphasized that it really depends on overall economic fundamentals. Meanwhile, in terms of world economics, it is said that the U.S. will likely announce, earliest this week, new measures to block China's technological advancements, including limiting the export of equipment capable of manufacturing 14nm chips. Legislators are concerned that Taiwan's semiconductor supply chain may be impacted.
Yang Chiung-ying, Legislator (KMT): “Does our government have a plan in response to the supply chain?”
Wang Mei-hua, Minister of Economic Affairs: “Actually, for Taiwan, there should not be much impact. Whether the supply chain will be affected should not be affected because Taiwan can still purchase the relevant equipment, materials, etc. This is not a problem.”
The Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua emphasized that as the U.S. government has not officially announced the new measures, they will keep a close watch on relevant information. If, as the media reports, there will be restrictions on the export of equipment that manufactures 14nm chips, Taiwan will prepare relevant plans in response and will not let it affect Taiwan's semiconductor production chain.
