Food Poisoning at Tainan's Silks Place Hotel 近百婚宴賓客疑食物中毒 台南晶英致歉

The Health Bureau was notified of a food poisoning event occurred at the Silks Place Hotel in Tainan. Nearly 100 guests who dined at four wedding banquets at the hotel on the 24th subsequently developed persistent vomiting, diarrhea and even fever. 

News broke out that around 1,100 guests who dined in four separate banquets at the Silks Place Hotel in Tainan throughout the 24th experienced symptoms of food poisoning. Some guests posted on their Facebook that they had diarrhea after the meal on the same day. One of the wedding banquets hosted about 360 guests and nearly a hundred of them fell ill, including the bride.

Mr. Chang: “The bride had stomach pains during the night. She went to the ER the next morning and was on IV fluids till noon. She is still sick right now. ”

The bridegroom's father, Mr. Chang, felt very frustrated with what had happened and had to call all his guests to apologize. What was supposed to be a happy wedding turned out to be a mess. Guests who chatted with each other at the hospital while seeking doctor's help discovered that they had all dined at the Silks Place Hotel on the same day. The hotel's management rushed to apologize and took appropriate action.

Yao Ming-ying, Senior Marketing Manager, Silks Place Hotel Tainan: “We have reported to the health bureau and will follow through with all necessary inspection processes. The health bureau has taken food samples back for further inspection.”

Fei Wei-ling, Chief, Food and Drug Division, Public Health Bureau, Tainan: “If our investigation and inspection results show pathogens in the food, then we will issue a penalty fine somewhere between NT$60,000 and NT$200 million, according to Article 15 under the Food Safety and Sanitation Act.”

The Tainan Public Health Bureau received 79 food poisoning reports relating to the Silks Place Hotel. They have taken samples from the hotel's kitchen, surfaces, food ingredients, and employees' and guests' clothes. The Silks Place said they would compensate the guests in medical costs. If food poisoning was indeed confirmed, they would further reimburse and compensate for any expenses incurred.

新人在歡呼及掌聲中入場，氣氛熱鬧，包括這場婚宴在內，台南晶英酒店24日當天共4場宴席、約1100位賓客，沒想到卻傳出疑似食物中毒，有賓客在臉書反映當天吃完出現腹瀉，其中席開36桌的婚宴，就有近百人上吐下瀉，連新娘也難以倖免。

當天宴客民眾張先生說道：「（新娘）當天晚上肚子有點不舒服，隔天早上就掛急診，吊點滴直到中午，所以新娘子到現在身體還是不舒服。」

原本開心娶媳婦，現在卻得一一打電話向賓客致歉，讓張先生很無奈；當天不同場的賓客到醫院吊點滴，聊天發現都剛吃過晶英宴席，這才意識到可能是酒店問題，業者也趕緊出面致歉及慰問。

台南晶英酒店行銷公關資深經理姚明瑩表示：「經過通報，我們現在是積極配合衛生局的所有檢驗，包含當天食材的檢體，也都讓衛生局帶回去做檢驗。」

台南衛生局食品藥物管理科長費偉鈴指出：「如果調查及檢驗結果證實為病原性微生物所引起，本局將依《食品安全衛生管理法》第15條規定，處6萬元以上，2億元以下的罰鍰。」

衛生局目前共接獲79例通報，也派人到酒店廚房稽查，針對菜餚、民眾跟廚工的檢體進行採檢。業者表示會協助處理賓客就醫費用，若確認是食物中毒，後續也會負起賠償跟退費的責任。
