Nancy Pelosi's Son Accompanied Her on Asia Trip 裴洛西之子小保羅隨團訪台 不在名單上

U.S. House Speaker Pelosi's visit to Taiwan continue to create follow-up effects as her son also visitied Taipei despite not being on the official delegation list.

Nancy Pelosi specifically introduced to President Tsai Ing-wen that the man was her son, Paul Pelosi Jr., who visited Taiwan with the delegation but was not on the official list. The host of Fox News questioned that Pelosi Jr. was not a government official or consultant, but he is employed by two lithium mining companies, and his visit was related to his Asian investments.

Nancy Pelosi (Aug. 10, 2022), US House Speaker: “Listen I had him come. And I was very proud that he was there. And I'm thrilled and it was nice for me. Did he have any business dealings while he was there? No, he did not. Of course, he did not. ”

Pelosi responded that her son only accompanied her and had nothing to do with business. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed that it respected the delegation's own arrangement and only provided necessary assistance. The Wall Street Journal disclosed that, although Xi Jinping warned President Joe Biden that Pelosi's visit to Taiwan would have consequences, he also indicated that China has no intention of going to war with the United States and that both sides need to maintain peace and security.

Arthur Ding, Honorary Professor, NCCU: “Biden said recently that he is not worried about the Taiwan Strait issue. So it means that Biden also knows it's just a drill, with no real meaning of military offensive in it.”

Ding concluded that China will respond diplomatically, and with economic sanctions and other means, but it will not escalate into a military conflict. However, the international support for Taiwan has also made China quite dissatisfied. Not only did China protest the visit of the Lithuanian delegation to Taiwan, but it even said that if Lithuania wants to restore relations with China, it is best to remove its Taiwan office.

Joanne Ou, Spokesperson, MOFA: “We express our sincere welcome to Lithuania for coming to Taiwan to set up a representative office.”

Following Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia also announced their withdrawal from the cooperation mechanism between China and Central and Eastern Europe. The U.S. State Department expressed support and respect and pointed out that more and more countries are deeply concerned about the strategic alliance between China and Russia. 

裴洛西特地向總統蔡英文介紹，這名男子正是正是裴洛西的兒子小保羅，這次隨團訪台，不過官方名單上面卻沒有列出，美國《福斯新聞網》主持人就質疑，小保羅並非官員或顧問，是受雇2家鋰礦公司，跟著訪問與亞洲投資有關。

美國眾議院議長裴洛西 (2022.8.10)：「他來陪我，我很驕傲他在那裡，對我來說也很好。（記者問是否有商務行程？）沒有，他當然沒有。」

裴洛西回應，兒子僅是陪同無關商務，外交部也表示尊重訪團的安排，僅是提供協助。不過《華爾街日報》披露，拜習先前通話，習近平雖然有警告拜登，裴洛西訪台會產生後果，但他也示意中方無意與美國開戰，雙方需要維護和平與安全。

政大名譽教授丁樹範指出：「拜登最近也說他不擔心台海的問題，所以表示說拜登也知道，這只是一個演習，不是真正具有軍事進攻的意義在裡面。」

丁樹範分析中國以外交制裁等手段回應，但不至於升級軍事衝突。不過國際支持台灣也讓中國相當不滿，不但抗議立陶宛訪團來台，甚至表示立陶宛要想修復跟中國關係，最好撤掉台灣辦公室。

外交部發言人歐江安表示：「對於立陶宛他們來台設處，我們表達我方誠摯的歡迎。」

而繼立陶宛之後，拉脫維亞、愛沙尼亞也宣布退出中國與中東歐的合作機制。美國國務院表達支持與尊重，並指越來越多國家對中俄戰略結盟深感關切。
