Text Tells Student He's Been Chosen to Fight for Russia
A college student recently received a text message purportedly from his school, informing him that he had been selected to go to Russia to take part in the war against Ukraine, and that he would receive 20 course credits for his participation. The school responded that this is absolutely not true and urged students not to be fooled.
Russia attacked Ukraine five days ago. Negotiations have taken place, but a ceasefire hasn't happened yet. Denmark announced its citizens can join the Ukraine fight. Recently, a male student studying at Chang Jung Christian University in Tainan received a text message purportedly from the school saying that he has passed a selection to join Russia in the fight to liberate Ukraine. He was asked to bring his national ID card to obtain weapons, and then board a flight for Moscow. The message also said "you will receive 20 course credits for fighting in the war."
Kuan Mei-yan, Secretary-General, Chang Jung Christian University: “The school of course did not send out this message. The school also immediately used our official app to warn all teachers and students to be alert for these types of inappropriate messages.”
Chang Jung Christian University Students: “Fake, fake, fake. It should be fake. ”
Other residents have also received this message. The university said the message received by its student was not sent from within the school. It was notified on Feb. 26 by the recipient, and immediately sent out a notice to an app used by the entire school. It says no students and teachers were duped, and added everyone feels that sending this kind of message while Ukraine is under attack from Russia is extremely inappropriate.
Chang Jung Christian University Student: “This is an extremely serious situation. War is a very serious matter. It's inappropriate to joke about it.”
Chang Jung Christian University Student: “Making fun of other people's race or nationality is not a good thing.”
The school intends to exercise its right to file a lawsuit, and says it will continue to monitor the situation. It also urges people to stop disseminating such inappropriate information.
