US Intelligence Report Lists China as Biggest Threat 美放寬與台交往限制 中方再提堅決反對

As the US has relaxed restrictions on exchanges with Taiwan, China expressed its opposition, and urged the US not to "play with fire." In response, the Mainland Affairs Council said Taiwan is a sovereign and independent country, and China has no right to have an opinion in Taiwan's international dealings.
On April 13, the US’ Office of the Director of National Intelligence announced the release of the 2021 Annual Threat Assessment of the US Intelligence Community report. This was the first intelligence report released under the Biden administration. The report ranked China as the biggest threat to US national security and said it is pressuring Taiwan towards unification through attempts to isolate it. Meanwhile, the US State Department lifted restrictions on official exchanges with Taiwan. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its opposition, urging the US to view the situation clearly and not play with fire. The Taiwan Affairs Office was also vocal in its opposition.
The US government promised the Chinese government that it will scrupulously abide by the one China principle and the Three Communiques. We urge the US to keep its promises through practical actions and not send out any erroneous signals on Taiwan independence. It should also use practical actions to maintain the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait. The Democratic Progressive Party authorities will only fail in their attempt to rely on the US to seek independence.

The Taiwan Affairs Office reiterated that the cause of the current tense situation across the Taiwan Strait is the Democratic Progressive Party administration and pro-independence separatist forces that are linked to external forces. Chinese warplanes have repeatedly flown around Taiwan as of late, and the TAO said these are signals to curb Taiwan independence and Taiwan-US collusion. It also criticized the US for inverting right and wrong by exaggerating the Chinese military threat. In response, the Mainland Affairs Council claimed Taiwan is a sovereign and independent country that has international dealings, and China has no right to have an opinion.
Taiwan has the right to interact with the international community, including with the US China has no right to have an opinion. It also shouldn’t overreact. The easing of the ban on contact with Taiwan will encourage Taiwan and the US to deepen exchanges and interact. It affirms that the two sides are important security and economic partners, which will help promote regional peace and stability. China should take a rational view.
Former US Senator Chris Dodd and a delegation arrived in Taiwan on April 14. They are scheduled to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen. The TAO said the Americans should first figure out what is right and wrong, and added that the so-called designations of official and unofficial are just a way to deceive people.
美國情報機構13號發布2021年度威脅評估報告，這也是美國總統拜登上任以來的第一份情報報告，內容將中國列為美國國安的頭號威脅，同時提到，中國持續在國際上孤立台灣，企圖施壓台灣走向統一，而美國增加與台灣政府往來，會繼續遭到中國批評，也因為美國務院放寬美台交往限制，中國外交部再提堅決反對，還敦促美方認清形勢，不要在台灣問題上玩火，中國國台辦也同聲斥責。
中國國台辦發言人 馬曉光表示：「恪守一個中國原則，和中美三個聯合公報，是美國政府，向中方做出的嚴肅承諾。我們敦促美方，用實際行動恪守承諾，不向台獨勢力，發出錯誤信號，以實際行動，維護台海和平穩定。民進黨當局倚美謀獨，必遭失敗。」
國台辦多次提到，當前台海情勢複雜嚴峻的根源，是民進黨政府與台獨分裂勢力勾連外部勢力，對於近來共機頻繁擾台，馬曉光強調，這是釋放對遏制台獨、遏制台美勾連決心的訊號，還批評美方顛倒是非，渲染所謂中國軍事威脅的論調，居心險惡，陸委會則重申，台灣是主權獨立的國家，與國際的往來，中共無權置喙。
陸委會發言人 邱垂正表示：「台灣有權利，與包含美國在內的國際社會，互動往來，中共無權置喙，也不必過度反應。此次，放寬與台灣交往禁令，鼓勵台美更緊密與深化交流互動，肯定雙方是重要安全和經濟夥伴，有助於促進區域和平穩定，中共應理性看待。」
就在中國嚴詞反對台美交流之際，美國前參議員陶德率領訪問團在14號下午抵台，總統蔡英文也將接見，馬曉光對此，要美國人先搞清楚是非曲直，還說所謂官方和非官方，只不過是騙人的幌子。
