Increased Support Gained for Algal Reef Petition 藻礁公投連署 228連假破29萬已逾門檻

A campaign to protect algal reef, despite its low-key beginning, is gaining momentum after several internet celebrities and politicians spoke out about the issue. It has collected more than 296,000 signatures after the 228 long weekend and the Rescue Datan's Algal Reefs Alliance decided to extend the deadline and is making a last-minute push.
The environmental campaign held by The Rescue Datan's Algal Reefs Alliance to initiate a referendum against a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project located near an area of algae reef in northern Taiwan continues. Volunteer workers have been busily organizing and preparing the petition since support has skyrocketed and over 296,000 signatures have been collected during the 228 Peace Memorial Day long weekend, which are more than the 289,000 needed set by the Central Election Committee.

The post office notified us that we would be expecting a large number of mail coming in tomorrow. We even recruited volunteers working for The Society of Wilderness to come help us since we are worried that our current staff would not be able to handle amount of petitions received.
The New Power Party (NPP) also showed their support by posting on their official Facebook page to push for more signatures for the campaign. They have also been selling pineapples and donating their income to the alliance.
We will continue to assist the algal reef campaign and we would also like to welcome everyone to buy and support Taiwan's pineapples through us.
Environmental groups expressed their gratitude over everyone's support and the help from volunteers during this tough period of time. Although enough signatures have already been collected, they say that supporters should not be content and urge them to continue submitting signatures to reach their goal of 350,000, and even up to 400,000 if possible, in order to show their determination to the government.
藻礁連署總部門口公投連署持續進行，內部志工忙著整理公投連署書，228連假粉紅風暴勢不可擋，已經累計29萬6千多份，超過中選會規定的28萬9千多份法定門檻。
連署民眾表示：「我不知道哪邊有簽，我在網路上看到這個地址，我跑到這邊，轉了二圈才找到。（來支持就對了啦？) 是。」
藻礁公投總部負責人 陳逸表示：「郵局其實也有來通知我們說，預估明天我們郵件的量會很大，荒野內部的志工都動起來。因為我們現在可能擔心的是，整理連署書的負擔，會超乎我們的預期。」
藻礁議題持續發酵，時代力量一早也在臉書大力為公投催連署，歡迎大家支持藻礁公投連署，也將義賣鳳梨所得全數捐給連署主辦單位。
時代力量黨主席 陳椒華表示：「今天藻礁公投，我們繼續協助來連署之外呢，我們也要邀請我們的市民，也可以來買這個鳳梨。」
環團表示，一切結果得來不易，很感謝全台支持者和志工的幫忙，才能順利走到今天，也呼籲支持民眾不要因過門檻就放心，希望公投連署能衝到35萬，甚至40萬份，讓政府知道民眾保護環境的決心。
