Concerns are growing about the pandemic as the Lunar New New holiday is approaching, when a massive islandwide travel is about to happen. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications is scheduled to meet with the Central Epidemic Command Center to discuss the measures.
The number of people infected in the Taoyuan General Hospital COVID-19 cluster infection continues to rise, and the domestic tourism industry is feeling the effects. Numerous travel agencies are offering refunds for tours to Taoyuan. Transportation and Communications Minister Lin Chia-lung was asked about the surge in tour cancelations. He said he hopes the tourism industry will work together to get past this crisis, and urged them to show understanding for people who wish not to move around so much during the disease prevention period. Lin also told people to stop labeling.

The domestic epidemic situation is worsening. As the Lunar New Year holiday is also approaching, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has decided to step up its public transport disease prevention measures. The measures will focus on trains and the high speed rail during the holiday period. Taiwan Railways Administration added 263 runs to its schedule during the holiday, and long-distance tickets have all sold out. Taiwan High Speed Rail added 453 runs and have already sold over half of reserved seats. It will be impossible to maintain social distancing during peak travel periods. The ministry will decide whether to issue a drinking and eating ban and stop selling standing tickets and tickets for unreserved seats after consulting with the Central Epidemic Command Center.
We have specific plans for the possible eating and drinking ban on trains, the high speed rail, and intercity buses, as well as the issue of reserved seats.
The ministry said the new measures will be announced by the CECC to avoid confusion. In the run-up, masks will still continue to be required on public transport and transport depots will be disinfected. Masks can be removed to eat or drink if social distancing can be maintained.
部立桃園醫院的群聚感染擴大，衝擊效應直接反應在國內旅遊，不少旅行社，都針對出團桃園的團體，"無限期停團退費"，針對這一波"退團潮"，交通部長林佳龍喊話，希望觀光業共體時艱，體諒旅客在防疫期間減少移動，不過也希望各界不要過度標籤化。
交通部長 林佳龍表示：「挺桃園就是挺台灣，那沒有人是局外人。在這個情形之下，只要落實防疫的措施，在台灣還是非常安全的，不用去特別去標籤化特定的地區。」
國內疫情升溫，加上春節假期即將來臨，交通部證實，已經研擬了"加嚴版公共運輸防疫措施"，焦點就在春節期間，訂位最踴躍的雙鐵，台鐵今年在春節期間，加263列次，長程車票都已經賣完，高鐵春節疏運期，加開453班次，已經賣出超過一半以上的對號座座位，尖峰時間，勢必無法保持社交距離，是否會禁止飲食，停售站票與自由座，將由指揮中心拍板決定。
交通部長 林佳龍表示：「加嚴的方案，那特別是大家關心的。雙鐵和國道客運，有關於限制飲食，還有對號座這方面，都有具體的規劃方案。」
交通部強調，為了避免旅客混淆，新措施將由指揮中心統一發布，在加嚴版防疫措施上路前，大眾運輸工具仍維持全面配戴口罩，落實場站消毒，保持社交距離前提下，才可以脫口罩飲食。
