Kaohsiung Hospitals Flooded After Long Weekend|

After huge crowds of tourists ignoring the COVID-19 pandemic flocked to tourism sites over the long weekend, the emergency rooms of many Kaohsiung hospitals were flooded with people that had visited the 11 sites the Central Epidemic Command Center issued warnings for. Most of the patients were experiencing upper respiratory tract problems. ER doctors say hospitals are currently overloaded. Fortunately, as of now, none of the patients have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

The long weekend is over, and queues outside emergency rooms are longer than ever. After taking their temperature, medical staff ask patients whether they have visited any of the tourism sites on the Central Epidemic Command Center's warning list.

In the past, (we would only ask) about overseas travel. Now, (we are asking) about domestic travel as well based on the national list of warning sites.

As soon as Monday arrived, patients that had visited the 11 sites flooded hospital emergency rooms across Kaohsiung.

Patients are showing up out of nowhere, so we are a bit overloaded. Most of them have visited the warning sites and decided they need medical attention because they now feel unwell.

Generally speaking, most of the patients have upper respiratory tract infections, fevers, coughs and sore throats. Diarrhea is (also a symptom).

While long hospital queues after holidays is the norm, numbers are unusually high due to the pandemic. Medical workers say hospitals are overloaded and hope patients can be honest about their travel history.
