Suhua Improvement Project Opens to Traffic|蘇花改通車典禮 蘇揆感謝工程人員辛勞

Thanks to their hard work and dedication so that people have a safe road home. This completion is not the end, there are still many tasks to be done.

The Suhua Highway Improvement Project is open to traffic at 4 pm on Jan. 6 and it is expected to bring more traffic from Taipei to Hualien. However, the capacity of the improved Suhua Highway doesn't match up with Freeway No. 5. Some are questioning the traffic flow during the Lunar Year holidays, which can cause both highways jam-packed with vehicles, will lead to at least 6 - 8 hours of traffic time to transport from Taipei to Hualien.

After the opening of the Suhua Improvement highway, people can still use the original Suhua Highway. We will be moving towards an "intelligent traffic system" so that we will provide more traffic information for the road users. In turn, people could use these information for their trip planning.

Lin stressed the Suhua Highway Improvement Project provides an alternative route for the public. Su Tseng-chang said there's a bridge holiday before the Lunar New Year's Eve so that people could adjust their schedules. Su added that he will ask the Ministry of Transportation to promote this alternative route so that people can access the traffic information quicker and better during the holidays.

行政院長 蘇貞昌表示：「向工程人員致敬，一鑿一磚的辛苦，需要一條安心回家的路，今天的完成不是結束，還有很多階段完成。」

蘇花改在6日下午4點就會正式開放全線通車，到時候預估台北到花蓮的車會變多，但是蘇花改單邊可以容納的車流量比國道5號少，外界質疑農曆春節期間，蘇花加上雪山隧道都塞車的情況之下，台北、花蓮行車時間可能會需要6小時到8小時。

交通部長 林佳龍表示：「提供智慧資訊，民眾自己分流。」

林佳龍強調，蘇花改是讓民眾多一條路可以選。蘇貞昌說，今年過年已經在除夕前一天彈性放假，讓民眾可以提早安排過年的行程，也說新的路網剛完成，大家一定會不適應，會要求交通部多多宣傳，讓民眾更快掌握交通狀況，平安過年。
