Holding and Waving National Flag? Lai: It's Normal|出席造勢場合揮舞國旗 賴:拿國旗很正常

Democratic Progressive Party vice presidential candidate William Lai previously described himself as a "pragmatic worker for Taiwan independence", but on Dec. 4, he was found waving the Republic of China flag while attending a rally. When asked about this action, he said holding a flag is a normal thing, and the biggest consensus in Taiwan now is " The Republic of China Taiwan". When asked about the case of Yang Hui-ju, he said he would prefer to wait for the investigation outcome.


On Dec. 4, Democratic Progressive Party vice presidential candidate William Lai attended the inauguration of a supporters' group comprised of several hundred lawyers. Also in attendance were Minister without Portfolio Lo Ping-cheng; Kaohsiung Incident defense lawyer Kuo Chi-jen; and attorney Chen Yu-fan, who only recently withdrew from the New Power Party. Recently, DPP Internet army leader Yang Hui-ju was charged with spreading fake news that led to the suicide of a diplomat. Kuomintang presidential candidate Han Kuo-yu posted on Facebook that the DPP should provide an explanation. When asked about this issue, Lai said he prefers not to comment and will instead await the outcome of the judicial investigation.
The truth can only come to light after the judicial investigation.

Lai previously described himself as a "pragmatic worker for Taiwan independence." Since joining the DPP ticket, his cross-strait policies have come under greater scrutiny. During the rally, Lai called for the upholding of Taiwan sovereignty while waving a Republic of China flag.

It's a normal thing to hold a national flag, it's not particularly unexpected. People have to protect their own countries. Under these circumstances, President Tsai Ing-wen has publicly stated that the "Republic of China Taiwan" is the greatest consensus in Taiwan.

Lai also sat down for a radio interview, during which he claimed Taiwan is already a sovereign and independent country with the name Republic of China, and he won't be proclaiming independence anymore. Meanwhile, Lo flourished a photo of the Kaohsiung Incident trial defense team taken in 1980 during the rally.

Looking back 40 years at the Kaohsiung Incident, the lawyers took such risks and were so brave. Fortunately, these lawyers were able to step forward with courage to protect democracy.

Lo urged all the lawyers in attendance to protect the value of human rights, transmit the spirit of the Kaohsiung Incident to future generations, and protect Taiwan's sovereignty so that Taiwan won't become Hong Kong.



民進黨副總統候選人賴清德出席全國律師後援會成立大會，現場有行政院政委羅秉成、美麗島案辯護律師郭吉仁、以及日前退出時代力量的陳雨凡律師，等上百名律師到場力挺「蔡賴配」。最近的卡神楊蕙如涉及網軍風暴被起訴，韓國瑜也在臉書質問要民進黨說清楚，不過賴清德只說靜待司法調查。

民進黨副總統候選人 賴清德表示：「待司法釐清之後，才有辦法水落石出。」

過去賴清德一向主張自己是務實台獨工作者，投入總統選舉後，兩岸論述也引起關注，不過競選活動現場賴清德高喊守護台灣主權，卻也同時揮舞中華民國國旗。

民進黨副總統候選人 賴清德表示：「拿國旗這本來就正常的事情，並不特別意外，自己的國家自己維護，這種狀況之下，特別是蔡英文總統公開講過，中華民國台灣，是整個台灣最大共識。」

賴清德上廣播節目受訪也強調台灣已經是主權獨立的國家，名字是中華民國，不會再去宣布獨立，呼應大批律師現身的現場，行政院政委羅秉成也拿出一張1980年美麗島大審辯護律師團照片，回顧四十年前的美麗島大審。

行政院政務委員 羅秉成表示：「我們回溯一下40年前美麗島事件，道長們(律師)怎麼冒險犯難，挺身而出，所幸這些道長(律師)，可以挺身而出護民主。」

羅秉成說，希望在場律師捍衛人權價值，傳承美麗島精神守護台灣主權，不要讓台灣變成香港。
